The blinded desire of killing his father leads Eliú to kill a man by mistake. Now, thoughtful, he wanders around the luxurious vegetation that grows inside the ruins of a conspicuous abandoned farm. He and other teenagers wander around the place and inhabit it as the new headquarters for the imprisonment center they belong to. Under the gaze of the hostile rules of those who watch over him, Eliú spends his days immersed in the dense vegetation.
He can only find relief from the monotony during his mother’s visits, but she has stopped visiting him due to the cancer from which she suffers. He tries to capture a vulture; he believes that the animal’s blood can heal his mother’s cancer.
Upon suspecting that his father has returned home and that his mother is in danger, he tries to flees from the detention center abruptly and put end to the hatred that tears apart his soul.
Eliú, un chico de campo, está encarcelado en una penitenciaría experimental para menores en el corazón de la selva colombiana. Entre los internos está el amigo de Eliú, El Mono, con quien cometió el asesinato que los llevó a la condena. Todos los días, los jóvenes realizan extenuantes trabajos manuales e intensas terapias de grupo. Durante su encarcelamiento, Eliú conoce a el Invisible y se transforma.
Eliú, un enfant de la campagne, est incarcéré dans un centre de réclusion expérimental pour mineurs au cœur de la jungle colombienne. Lui et d’autres adolescents hantent ce lieu, nouveau quartier général du centre d’emprisonnement auquel ils appartiennent. Sous les règles hostiles de ceux qui les surveillent, Eliu passe ses jours immergé dans la végétation dense. Il ne trouve du soutien pour rompre cette monotonie que durant les visites de sa mère, mais elle a cessé de venir le voir à cause de son cancer. Il tente de capturer un vautour, il croit que le sang de l’animal pourra guérir sa mère. En plus de suspecter le retour de son père au foyer, il se soucie de sa mère et tente de fuir sa prison pour mettre fin à la haine qui déchire son âme.
Invited by adolescents I had filmed in a Medellin slum 16 years ago, I return to the city that was known back then as "the most dangerous city in the world"; I discover that it has become the "most innovative city on the planet". An emblem of this change lies in this very neighbourhood: the Biblioteca España, a symbol of the state of things in this microcosm of Colombia. In 1997 I filmed three young people who are today fully involved in their neighbourhood’s life. As the owner of a photography business specialising in weddings and communions, Wilmar is in charge of the residents’ image. Manual is President of the "Community Action Committee", in charge of finding solutions to the neighbourhood’s problems. Maria Eugenia, who was teaching her mother to read in my film, is now a Spanish teacher at the school. The documentary will be haunted by the presence of a phantom poet, killed two years after my first film. A person forgotten by no one but whose ashes are best left untouched. A metaphor for horror, amnesia and impurity. We are going to evaluate what is at stake for a neighbourhood that the city decided to incorporate. In 1997, I asked them: How do you see yourself in 10 years? School did not change the world, but it changed those who could change the world.

En 1997, j’ai filmé trois jeunes personnes aujourd’hui très impliquées dans la vie de leur quartier. Propriétaire d’une entreprise de photographie spécialisée dans les mariages et les communions, Wilmar est chargé des images des résidents. Manual est le président de Community Action Committee, chargé de trouver des solutions aux problèmes du quartier. Maria Eugenia, qui a appris à sa mère à lire, enseigne maintenant l’espagnol dans une école. Le documentaire sera hanté par la présence d’un poète fantôme, tué deux ans après mon premier film. Un personnage que personne n’a oublié mais dont les cendres sont restées vierges. Une métaphore de l’horreur et de l’amnésie. En 1997, je leur demandais : comment vous vous voyez dans dix ans ? L’école ne change pas le monde, mais elle change ceux qui pourraient changer le monde.

La primera noche is about a peasant couple who have been ousted from their remote land, where they lived since their childhood, and brutally launched onto the streets of an enormous, strange and ruthless city. They experience suffering, disillusionment, disappointment in love grow inside them. They are incapable of bearing each other's pain. Althought the backdrop of this film is the Columbian conflict, the real action takes place in the characters' hearts.
