Clara is a young Quechua midwife who sings to ease the pain of pregnant women. Her mother, Ana, an experienced midwife, sees this gift as a miracle from the gods. Influenced by a friend and after an argument with her mother, Clara decides to leave for the city. The community suffers mysterious deaths of animals and crops, which the villagers attribute to Clara’s departure as a divine punishment. Determined, her mother sets out for the city to search for Clara and bring her back.
