Filhos do mangue

A violent and disturbed man is found wounded and suffering from amnesia in a coastal community. When he is accused of theft by the fishermen, they try in vain to make him regain his memory in order to recover the stolen money. In a popular trial, a conspiracy is uncovered involving embezzlement of public funds, prostitution, domestic and gender-based violence. Sentenced to isolation, he seeks a new meaning in life.

Production notes

In 2019 I looked for filming locations in the northeast of Brazil went to Barra de Cunhaú in the state of Rio Grande do Norte and this search ended on the first day. Beautiful beaches, mangroves, a fishing village and residents who embraced the idea from the first moment. I found all the elements present in the plot. The feature film Filhos do Mangue crudely exposes riverside labor exploitation, denouncing a situation of domestic violence and child prostitution.

Support

The film has been entirely produced with public resources from ANCINE’s Fundo Setorial (BRDE), in addition to private sponsors.
