Production notes

1976 is directed by a first-time filmmaker, but it relays an astonishing confidence, both in the story that is being told, and the visual form that it takes. The film takes us to a very dark moment in Chilean history, anchored in Carmen, a woman that tries to find a voice in a context that would not allow her to have one. With careful period consideration, it also has a very contemporary approach, which looks back at the untold stories of the women of the time.
