In the Peruvian Andes, two siblings are raised in isolation by their father, a Tablas de Sarhua painter who exchanges his art in the village for supplies, while his children wait for him, cared for by their dogs. A series of unexpected events will drastically transform the only reality they know and will bring Sabina, the older sister, to meet her past and her culture.

Leonardo Barbuy La Torre

Leonardo Barbuy is the director and writer of Diogenes, his first fiction feature film. His first short film Alana (2017) won the National Short Film Award. Imposibilidad (2019, short film) has been selected in international festivals. He has also composed original music for other feature films. Besides filmmaking, he directs MARES, an association in Lima dedicated to research and practice on autonomous development and learning.

Production notes

Diogenes is Leonardo Barbuy’s first feature film and also MOSAICO’s first feature film. We started working on this project 5 years ago, in Peru, and we were able to shoot it in August 2021. We are fortunate to be accompanied in the co-production by La Selva, a Colombian production company directed by Laura Mora (Matar a Jesús) and Mirlanda Torres; and by David Hurst from Dublin Films (France), who has extensive experience in co-production with Latin America
