Sofía Quirós Ubeda

Sofía Quirós Ubeda was born in 1989. Her feature film debut Ceniza Negra was selected for Next Step (Torino Film Lab + Cannes Critic’s Week), 3 Puertos Cine, Lobo Lab and received support from the Ibermedia Program, World Cinema Fund, the Tribeca Latin American Fund, and the Aide aux Cinémas du Monde. Her last short film Selva was part of the competition of the 56th Semaine de la Critique. Since then, it has screened in festivals all over the world, including Biarritz (TV5 Prix) and Guanajuato (Women in Film and TV Award).

Production notes

Sputnik Films was founded in 2011. The Sound of Things premiered at the Main Competition of the 38th Moscow International Film Festival and received the Kommersant Weekend Prize. It was Costa Rica’s Official Submission for the 2018 Academy Awards. Land of Ashes, by newcomer Sofía Quirós, is currently in post-production. It is expected to premiere in 2019.
